If someone dies, what's the first thing you should do?

As difficult a subject as this is, many of us will unfortunately be presented with it at sometime. You might be thinking, "I wouldn't know what to do". The first instinct most people have is actually the right one – you should seek urgent medical assistance in case resuscitation is possible.

But it is normally the job of the family doctor to confirm the fact of death and complete a death certificate. Once the doctor has left, we will need to be contacted to arrange the transfer of the person's body into our care. This can be delayed for a little while if you would like some private time with your loved one. We are available 24 hours every day of the year.

From there and at the appropriate time, we can help you arrange the funeral service.

John Allison/Monkhouse continues its commitment to educate the community about the funeral industry.
